Circle of Influence
as a Mother
If I had chosen to be a school teacher or a business woman, I surely could have affected a number of lives, where some growth surely would have occurred because of something I did or said. Who knows, maybe the company I worked with may have experienced unbelievable success.
By choosing to be a mother I can affect my children and their children and so on for generations. All of the people that my progenitors know can/will be affected. Parenthood is the most important job you will ever have, as well as the hardest! What thing of value ever really came easy, without any hardship or trials involved? Maybe it's because of the sacrifice and struggles that you go through along the way that helps you appreciate being a parent. I know it has helped me to realize the blessings and just the pure joy that a child can bring into my life. If you do your job well and teach your children correct principals, life is thus enhanced for all way beyond your family circle.
I have met those who look down upon the "full-time" parent as a person who hasn't really done anything. I feel just the opposite. I had an interesting experience a couple of years ago. I was taking a course on starting my own business and at one point we started talking about what is needed, we of course talked about determining what our strength happen to be. There are certain attributes that are needed to own your own business. This class was filled with business women, there was only one other woman that was a stay-at-home mom. As we went through all the exercises, I found that my experience was much more diverse than the women who had been stuck in a "job". I really came to appreciate the fact that I had experienced more life and had more essential skills for life, by being a mother and enhancing that role. It is not only "me" that is
benefited, but also my husband and my children.
Being a mother and finding joy in that role is one of the greatest blessings of life. Realize your strengths and talents. Expand your horizons for the benefit of yourself and your family, and your influence will be felt. Our oldest daughter will be having a baby in January. I hope she has learned this from me and will feel her circle of influence with her new child. I'm glad it was a choice that I made.
Enjoy being a mother, your children will appreciate the fact that you are too.
