Woven Valentines Heart

Easy enjoyable releases of creativity. Fun for all ages.

Materials:

  • Scraps of wool or felt fabrics in red, pink or white. Just pick two contrasting but coordinating colors.

Instructions:

  1. Wash wool fabric in washer and dry it in a hot dryer to shrink it and make it fray-proof. If using felt, do not wash.

Cut one pattern piece from each of 2 contrasting colors.

  2. Carefully cut slits in each fabric piece along straight inside lines of pattern. Fold each fabric piece so that rounded ends match and slits form loops at opposite end.

  3. Place 2 shapes at right angles to each other. (See Diagram) Begin to weave as follows:

    1. Insert Loop 1 into Loop A. A into 2, 3 into A. A into 4, 5 into A.

    2. Row 2: Insert B into 1, 2 into B, B into 3, 4 into B, B into 5.

      Row 3: Insert I into C, C into 2, 3 into C, C into 4, 5 into C.

Continue in like manner to weave remaining row.

  4. Adjust tension of weave so heart lies flat. There should be a pocket in the center of heart.

Finishing touches include adding tissue paper inside to fill with flowers, candies, a heart cookie or ??

This is a nice simple gift to give to a teacher, friend or who ever you are thinking of.
