What You'll Need:
-
One Sweatshirt or Tee shirt
-
A piece of fabric large enough to fit behind the heart, plus
2 inches. The color should either complement or contrast with the shirt. This is to be used as a backing fabric.
-
Thread in a complementing or contrasting color.
-
Sewing machine or, if you are hand sewing, a sewing needle.
Instructions:
-
Enlarge the pattern to desired size. My heart measured 8" across X 9" high.
-
Trace over the pattern with chalk. Press the pattern onto the sweatshirt and lightly
rub the leave the chalk lines on the shirt.
-
Pin under-fabric underneath the heart pattern.
-
Sew along all of the solid lines, making sure that the sewing is also catching
the under-fabric.
-
Using sharp scissors cut an "X" in the center of each square, making sure not
to cut through the backing fabric.
Note: As the shirt is washed, the cuts will open to expose the fabric in the back.
VERSION:Use a more detailed pattern, add some flowers or ribbon shapes. After sewing
around the shape that you will cut into, paint the rest with acrylic fabric paint. Allow to dry
overnight. Cut the shirt in-between the sewing as for above shirt.
