GIANT STEPS

This is a children's game for four or more players.

One player is chosen to the "Mother" by drawing straws or counting out. She stands about 55 feet away from the others, who stand lined up in a row. She calls out the name of the first player, saying for example "Lisa may take 10 baby steps." Lisa then says: "Mother may I?" Mother says "Yes you may." She then takes 10 steps forward heel-to-toe. The game continues in this way until one player is close enough to tag "Mother." Then that player becomes the new Mother and calls the steps after all the others have returned to the starting place. If any player moves, forgetting to say "Mother may I," the player loses a turn and must stay still until his next turn.

The Mother may pick any number of different steps for the player to take, such as:

Crab walks

Do this by bending down. While leaning backward, place your hands on the floor. Walk on your hands and feet. Your back will be facing the floor and you will be facing the ceiling.

Caterpillar Crawls

Do this by bending over your toes and touch the floor. While keep your feet stationary, walk your hands forward the number of steps required. Now walk your feet to meet up with your hands.

Kangaroo Hops, Bunny Hops, Frog hops etc.

Hop forward the required number of hops. For fun you can vary the hops by bending legs, keeping hands on the floors, or holding your hands a certain way etc. Use your imagination.

Scissor Walks

Walk or hop while your legs are crossed. This can also be varied in degree and method.

Have fun making up new steps.

This is a very old game. I used to play it when I was a child. Kids enjoy it still; it's not old to them. So have some good old fun!
