Developing Character

Can you imagine a world where everyone adhered to this statement? Character does seem to be lacking in too much of society today. Integrity, another companion of character, helps to make up the character of a person. Integrity is the doing part of character.

This is the screen saver message my husband has scrolling across the screen on our computer. When our kids come in to use the computer, this is the message they see. Hopefully this will help them to make better choices when accessing the internet, or anything else they do. My husband and I can't always be right there, and don't want to have to be. Children need to be good people because they want to be, not just because mom and dad are always breathing down their necks. A wise leader once said that he taught his people wise principles and then they governed themselves. It is the governing of ones self that shows character.

Character is determined by what you do when you think no one else will know . . . . . . .

Can you even imagine if this idea were to be carried even further, into people outside your family? Can you imagine people really applying this in business or personal relationships? What kind of a world would it be? What if, when we were tempted to take advantage of someone, we saw this message scroll across our eyes . . . We can only govern ourselves, but that's what it takes, for each person to govern themselves and make right choice, to have integrity when no one but God is watching.

I guess that we can only imagine . . . I've just scratched the surface.

But, we are going to teach this to our kids! It would be great if this were the standard to live by with everyone. Let's make it the standard!
